Ancient and stunning, Quaking Aspens are among the world’s oldest living organisms.

  • Its striking white bark is green beneath a white powdery coating, serving to protect it from sun damage at high elevations
  • It reproduces through clones, which are shoots sent up from its root system that have identical genetic make-up
  • Its soft wood makes it a favorite of cavity-nesting birds like woodpeckers, flickers and blue birds
  • Aspen sprouts are the favorite food for the elk in the area
  • The largest living organism on earth is a quaking aspen. Living in Utah and spanning 106 acres of its clones, these trees are genetically identical and arise from one massive underground root

  • Enjoy sweeping views of Larkspur Meadow from the base of the tallest peaks in Arizona
  • See a diverse mix of trees, unique rock outcroppings, and a burst of colorful blooms in spring
  • Spot wildlife like deer, turkeys, squirrels, butterflies, and bluebirds visiting the meadow

Located at the edge of the foothills and leading to the base of the tallest peaks in Arizona, Sunset Meadowview fully captures the essence of this forest.

It also features the most diverse mix of tree species compared to other sections. You’ll find charismatic ponderosa pines, resilient white pines, and stately douglas firs here.

Rock outcroppings along the forest floor add a distinctive element, providing natural places to sit and enjoy filtered views of the meadow.
